5 Tips For A Stress-Free School Holidays

As excited as kids might be over the idea of School Holidays, sometimes the reality doesn’t work out exactly as well for children or their parents. There are siblings to squabble with, potential lack of structure to their days, or even the reverse, over-scheduling,  which can lead to a surprisingly stressful time for the kids and certainly for the adults. But no need to despair! There are plenty of ways to unwind, de-stress, and work off some of that pent-up energy.

1 - Plan fun day trips!

A great way to keep everybody occupied whilst also having a bit of an adventure to boot is to research fun places within an hour or two of where you live--perhaps a park, zoo, or museum or a local spot of historical or cultural significance and have a fun family outing. It can be particularly fun to pick a place you haven’t been to before. This way, you can have an entirely brand-new experience, exploring a ‘previously undiscovered’ (at least by you!) environment, and create the sorts of memories with your family that will last a lifetime.

2 - Have a picnic lunch!

There’s something intrinsically fun about about packing a big picnic lunch filled with various courses, sides, and treats, and then getting to eat the food outdoors on a blanket in hopefully lovely weather. And the best part about this is that it can be done anywhere: in your own backyard, at a local park, even somewhere indoors if need be, should the weather not go your way. And perhaps the best part is it can be combined with the above day trip suggestion for an even more exciting day.

3 - Family game night!

A great way to bring the family together for a fun, relaxing evening is a game night. Whether this be in the form of board or videogames is up to you, but, as it can be de-stressing to unplug from screens for a while and actually look one another in the face, we’d probably suggest a preference for the former.

And if you have any worries about any competitiveness amongst the children causing fights, there are actually a number of cooperative board games where, rather than play against one another, the players actually join forces and play together against the board, which can be a fun method of bonding while having fun and taking down a bad guy together!

4 - Throw a barbeque party in the backyard!

There’s no place like home! Invite friends and family over for a fun day in your own backyard, where you can unwind with good food and companionship. If you have a pool, you and the kids can all go for a swim. If not, you can set up a sprinkler for the kids to run through. You could also set up a net for a game of volleyball, or even…

5 - Jump on your Springfree trampoline!

Not only are Springfree trampolines an excellent way to exercise and stay in shape but jumping around on them produces endorphins, which which increase your positivity and decrease your stress. And your trampoline is a great solution for this on any day, whether it’s during an aforementioned party surrounded by friends, or with your kids on a nice afternoon, or even by yourself, while your kids are off visiting their friends or occupied with another activity.

With these tips, the School Holidays can become a time that you look forward to as a way to de-stress with your family, rather than as something to dread.
