Pressures of daily life can begin to take their toll. Often we can find ourselves battling through the day with low energy, reaching for caffeine first thing in the morning (and for the rest of the day too!), or relying on sugary pick-me-ups in order to make it through that afternoon slump.
There are very simple changes you can make to your day that will have a big impact on your energy levels, and therefore your mood and overall sense of wellbeing.
Here are four easy ways you can boost your energy everyday:
1. Get your daily dose of natural daylight
We know that the ‘winter blues’ is a real thing. Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is common because many of us just don’t get enough exposure to safe sunshine over winter and it can really affect how you feel. Make an effort to get outside early in the morning, or even for a quick walk around the block at lunchtime. It’s also important for your eyes to get natural light, so if it’s not too bright, take your walk without your sunnies!
When you get home from work or at the weekend, get jumping on an awesome Springfree Trampoline and shoot a few goals with the Flexrhoop - that will lift your spirits in no time!
2. Move your body
Make an effort to get more movement into your day - even if it’s incidental. That could mean taking the stairs instead of the elevator, getting off the bus a stop earlier, parking your car further away or walking around while you’re talking on your phone. It could also mean that you look for ways to fit more exercise in when you can. This is another reason why having a Springfree trampoline is great! You don’t have to leave home, you can fit it in when it suits you, and you don’t need a lot of time to bounce around and feel the benefits. The increase in oxygen to your lungs, blood circulation and just some uplifting FUN will no doubt give you an instant energy boost.
3. Replace those sugary snacks
We’re all familiar with that 3pm crash - where you reach for the sugary snacks to help give you the boost you need to last the distance to the end of the day. If you need an afternoon snack, go for a piece of whole fruit and a drink of water for a hit of natural sugar and some much-needed hydration, rather than sweet treats and coffee or energy drinks. Sugar-filled treats will certainly give you a short-term high, but don’t be fooled, you’ll only crash a little while later. Try to curb your caffeine intake and limit caffeinated drinks to the morning so that it doesn’t impede on the quality of your sleep.
4. Focus on breath
Set yourself reminders throughout the day to really focus on your breathing - that is, proper diaphragmatic breathing. Breathing deeply helps your body trade out carbon dioxide for the oxygen that it needs to really function properly. It’s also a really effective tool for reducing stress and refocusing. It involves breathing deeply through your nose until you feel your stomach expand. As you exhale through your mouth, you should tighten your abdominal muscles so that your diaphragm contracts. Focus on this for at least a minute, several times throughout the day and you’ll begin to feel more centred, balanced and energised.
These four tricks don’t require big changes or a huge amount of time, but they’ll have a powerful impact on how you are feeling throughout the day. Give them a try and see what a difference it makes to your energy levels!
