Back to school Blues?

back to school

If you are like the mothers in our Springfree™ Trampoline office, I hope you had a wonderful Australia Day covering text books! We are so excited for the kids to be going back school. We are even throwing a party to celebrate.

But not all kids share our excitement. It can be daunting going into a new year, new classroom environment, getting a new teacher and meeting new friends. All this ‘new’ can be very scary! For others, this can be super exciting. Either way the kids need to adapt from their lazy summer sleep-ins to their new routine of uniform, breakfast, school.

So to make the transition from jumping on their Springfree™ Trampoline all day to being at school here are some tips from our very own Springfree™ SuperMums.

Start the routine early. Ease the kids into the routine slowly so it’s not as stressful on the first day. (This is for you more than the kids!)

Early Bed times! Kids get extra tired in the first couple of weeks, which can mean emotional outbursts. A little extra sleep each night especially in the first couple of weeks can help.

Give kids a breakfast suitable for an Ironman and ensure all snacks are healthy and nutritious. Lots of carbs and extra fruit snacks in their lunchbox help keep the energy levels up during the transition to school.

Remind and encourage kids about all the exciting things they will get up to at school! Art, field trips & playing with friends at lunch time always seem to strike a positive chord with kids.

We love hearing advice and tips from mum’s alike so please share. What tips do you have to ease the transition of going back to school?

At the prestigious Awards Ceremony in Toronto, Springfree™ Trampoline has been recognised as the judge’s number one choice on top of our category crown. A huge Honour.

‘Product of the Year’ is one of the largest polls on product innovation. The field nominees are narrowed down by a panel of industry judges and consumers ultimately determine the winners.

Steven Holmes, CEO of Springfree™ Trampoline, says it’s a huge honour to bear this designation and to be reconignised by consumers.

“ We were honored to win in our category, so to then find out we were the overall judges choice was amazing”.

Springfree™ Trampoline is celebrating all around the world tonight about this globally recognised award”, Holmes concluded.

A kids Global Adventure from home..

Globe

We love sharing fun yet educational ideas for kids and this one is a big favourite of mine. Mainly because this would have been very beneficial for me! I am what you call ‘Geographically Challenged’ and if little Passport – The Global Adventure existed when I was growing up I am sure I would have avoided some awkward situations.

Little Passports is designed to teach kids about country’s geography, history, culture, and language in a fun, memorable and inspiring way.

Each month, Sofia and Sam, travel to a new country on their magical scooter and share their experiences with your child. Your child will receive an exciting package via postal mail that includes an adventure letter, fun souvenirs, activities and access to our online Boarding Zone full of games and activities.

With this sort of inspiration your kids will probably want to travel the world before they can drive but hey, what a great way to show younger generations the different cultures and customs of our time.

Do as I say not what they (your brother and sister) do

best-family-fitness-backyard

Whether you like it or not new research shows that’s kids learn habits (the good and bad) from their siblings. So when your little one is watching in awe of the big brother doing dangerous flips on the Springfree™ Trampoline, be warned!

Academics say while parents are better role models in formal settings, children learn much of the informal ways of life, such as how to act ‘cool’ around friends from their brothers and sisters. It really does but a new meaning on ‘Mum, that’s so not cool!’

Although this seems like a no brainer (what monkey see monkey do), Professor Laurie Kramer said the findings might have an impact on how to tackle some of the social issues such as teenage drinking, smoking and pregnancies. He said having a clearer understanding if how siblings function as ‘agents of socialisation’ would help uncover why some children became antisocial.

Do you find your children learn most of their social habits from their siblings?

What are your kids favourite TV Shows?

blues clues

There is nothing better for kids than getting outdoors and playing on the Springfree™ Trampoline, but lets be honest we all need some down time. As a parent you can sometime’s feel a little guilty about your kids being in front of the box, but as research shows its not all bad.

Professor Anderson says children aged two and over may benefit from watching television but it depends on whether the content of the program matches the age of the child.

Research shows that educational television, such as Sesame Street, helps children learn the alphabet, learn to count and teaches them about good social habits (such as waiting your turn) and broadens their vocabulary and understanding of the world.

What do you think about TV and how much do you let your children watch?

When asking some of the mothers of the Springfree office, educational shows that got the two thumbs up include;

• Baby Einstein

• Finley the Fire Engine

• All for Kids- on Channel 7

• David Attenborough’s wildlife documentaries

• Special Agent OSO

As parents what shows do you encourage your children to watch?

Is your heart Bootylicious?

A little fat around the thigh and bottom area is good for you! Before you re-read that last sentence again thinking you must have mis-understood, no need. It’s true. Research published in the International Journal of Obesity found that storing a little bit of extra fat in this troublesome area is healthy, protecting against heart disease and diabetes.

Lead researcher Konstantinos Manolopoulos, of Oxford University, said science could look to increasing thigh and bottom fat deposits to abate cardiovascular and metabolic problems.
Evidence shows fat around the thighs and backside is harder to shift than fat around the waist. This is actually beneficial, because when fat is broken down quickly it releases a lot of cytokines, which trigger inflammation in the body.

These cytokines have been linked to cardiovascular disease, insulin resistance and diabetes.

Of course living a healthy life is the most important thing but if you like I put on weight in this area first – just think… it’s good for you! As a company we encourage a healthy active lifestyle and jumping on a Trampoline is one of the most effective cardiovascular exercises that the whole family can participate in.

Even with our 20-min Fun Fitness Challenge, we don’t get caught up with our size, weight or the so called ‘average’ size of females dictated by society, rather its more about improving your overall fitness level so you can live a long, healthy, up and down kind of life.

If you would like to get involved with our Fun Fitness Challenge that is kicking off (or should I say jumping off) this Monday, please email me at erin@springfree.com.au.
